Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
As we start a new year, it is important to pause and consider this turning point in our lives. We have finished a year we will never get back, 2018, and beginning a year with new opportunities in what we call 2019. It is important to reflect back on what has taken place in the previous year to ponder the triumphs and victories, the failures that needed forgiveness, and also the lessons to be learned and applied in this coming year.
Scripture says make the “most of every opportunity,” and we must begin to ask ourselves are we making the most of the opportunities God has given us. If not are we ready to start making a change for Christ this oncoming year. We will look back at the end of this year and see the spiritual growth that we wanted or look back and say where did the year go and nothing got accomplished.
Consider these three things to help us make the most of every opportunity. First, we do everything for God and His glory. This should be the beginning and end of all our motivations in everything we do. Second, to see how the Lord is in the process of changing us into His likeness. God wants us to be less like our sinful self and more like His sinless Son. Third, in a world that needs goodness and love, as we do all things for the glory of Christ and to be conform to the image of His Son, may we contribute to the change of this world as the model prayer says, “your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.”
